Keep Your Tire Tread and Pressure in Check

July 18th, 2019 by

At Honda of Stamford, our team shares a goal to help keep drivers safe when they're behind the wheel. Keeping your tire pressure and tire tread in check are important steps that make certain your tires are in optimal condition.

If your tires are overinflated, your vehicle's weight will not be evenly distributed across the entire tread. Instead, the weight of your vehicle will be centered directly on the thin strip in the middle of your tire. When tires don't have enough inflation, they will be softer in the center, which will cause excessive wear on the outer tread. Tires without adequate inflation will wear quickly and unevenly, and it can also increase your risk for blowouts. When your tires are properly inflated, they can withstand potholes, curbs, and other obstacles better than tires with incorrect pressure.

It is also important that your tires have enough traction to keep you in control on wet surfaces. To check your tread, stick a penny into the tread. The penny should be upside down. If you can see all of Abraham Lincoln's head, then it's time for a tire change.
