Understanding Towing and Payload Ratings

September 19th, 2018 by

At Honda of Stamford, we've found that many people are confused about the difference between the towing capacity of a truck and the payload rating. Understanding the two numbers can ensure that you make good decisions about the weight that you put into your truck in Greenwich.

The payload capacity of a truck is generally much lower than the towing rating, so it's important not to mix the two up. The payload rating refers to the amount of weight that can be placed directly on the chassis of the truck, including in the cab and the bed. The towing rating is simply the amount of weight that the truck can pull behind it.

To keep your truck up and running, bring it to our dealership for service. We'll make sure that the chassis, engine, transmission, and suspension are up to the task.
